How many wifi enabled laptops can i connect to single wireless router/modem? - how many wireless connections can a router handle
I live in a house and want to do WiFi. We're about 20 boys living there. We have the option of a 256 kbps ADSL connection. I want to know how the laptop can contain a simple wireless modem / router can handle? Do I have a connection via a modem? It can also support a variety of wireless laptop modem?

the number of allowed connections is unlimited, but more to the slower times, everything works. If you are so fast that everyone should increase their bandwidth from your provider. Good luck
Technically speaking, a wireless modem router \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ u0026lt \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ \\ u0026lt; should "be able to cope with 20 laptops for each of you. There are however a number of considerations have this potentially a very difficult task.
1. Mobile devices are limited in their scope is limited by the walls around the router. The signal usually a better distribution in the plane of the antenna have to think (like a big circle) and dicreasing resistance above and below the antenna. (The circle is much smaller underneath, disappeared almost completely within 2-3 meters below the router, then the circle is very small, about 4-5 meters) above the antenna. Therefore, if you live in an agreement x room per floor, you think that perhaps the installation of wireless access points, central location on each floor.
2. Simultaneous connections. Even if a router can in many simultaneous connections you want, in practice, and taking into account the description of a housing and 20 children would need to manage IP addressing 20 devices and allow for some connections simultaneously. The problem at hand is 100% within a router, while the participation rate the quality of the router. A base map on the device, which allows Internet service providers over broadband, when it comes, they have to put in the position, 6-10 units without major problems. Once the existence of access points could be the solution is desired, the configuration of the various transmission channels, the effect of interference can be minimized.
3. The speed problems. While the above configurations is possible, a unified network connected 20 or more users, with 256 kbit / s is not much when you allow 3-4 users who reach be used simultaneously found. Basically, a line of 256 kbit / s for surfing and chatting well only if more than 1 As Internet usage vary more from person to person, you should consider limiting the service provided by the surveillance authorized ports on your router.
I hope these things are enough to get you started.
The upper limit depends on the configuration of the router and attach it to use the space 10.xxx address with netmask 255.0.0.0 has 16387064-addresses available. That should be enough for everyone!
My wireless router handles my 4 computers. Would, however, I can not imagine it take as much as you want, but can slow down the connection. It is natural that all laptops have a wireless card installed or under construction
Networks depend on how many inches the switch segmented more likely if it is) is a standard home / home office Wi-Fi router (Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, etc., a router or access point for 20 Phones / PDA / wireless computers with desktop computer is sufficient. Stick w / the default if you want to make it easier for you, but make sure you secure (much) less w / WEP encryption to help others out. Check the router / AP 's website for further support manufacturers.
